Rectangular papier mache snuff box, the lid with an over-coloured print depicting the Thames Tunnel beneath some boats on the River Thames.  English C1845.  NB: The Thames Tunnel is an under-water tunnel built beneath the River Thames connecting Rotherhithe to Wapping.  Construction commenced in 1825 and was completed in 1843 by Marc Isambard Brunel and his son Isambard Kingdom Brunel.  It measures 35 wide, 20 feet high and 1300 feet long, running at a depth of 75 feet below the river surface, measured at high tide.  It is the first known tunnel to be built successfully underneath a navigable river.
