Large round ribbed enamel box, the white-ground is simply decorated with roses and forget-me-nots and the centre bears a flaming heart. The copper-gilt mounts hinge open to reveal a painting on the inner lid of a pug seated on a blue cushion with a pink bow tied around its neck. German C1765. NB: The pink ribbon on a pug can often refer to a secret society of the time.
