Mrs Hughes on vellum in shagreen case C1720

Miniature of a lady know as Mrs Hughes, wearing a blue dress with ruched sleeves and embroidered edging around the bodice.  She has a pink shawl draped over her shoulders and is set against a landscape background.  Watercolour on vellum C1720.  Glazed and set in its original shagreen case with pique studwork.

NB: An old label attached suggests that Mrs Hughes is mother of Admiral Sir Edward Hughes.
