Small miniautre of the Austrian Empress Eleonora, née Gonzaga of Mantua-Nevers (1630-1686). She is facing front with fair hair, wearing a blue dress with a pearl at her breast with matching pearl earrings and necklace. Oil on copper English C1655. Silver frame with spiral top.
Eleonora was a highly intelligent woman who was interested in the sciences and she was also scientifically educated herself. She was also fluent in French, Spanish, German and Italian and additionally well versed in literature, music and art and even an expert in dances and embroidery
