Unusual miniature of a young lady with black curled hair, wearing a white dress with frilled ruff, blue waistband and a red shawl draped over both shoulders. Watercolour on ivory by Samuel Shelley C1790. It is housed in an extremely unusual gold locket frame. To access the miniature, the gold hanger has to be unscrewed and the locket opens to reveal the miniature on one side and glazed plaited hair on the reverse.
