Repousse Enamel Etui

Unusual enamel tapering stand-up etui.  The white enamel ground is decorated with yellow swags and bianco sopra bianco decoration on the sides.  The front and back have repoussed figures and birds depicting a shepherdess with a lamb on her lap and a spaniel by her feet above which is a moulded bird sitting amongst fruit.  The back is of a gent in a purple cape trying to woo a reticent lady and 2 birds above.  The decorative copper-gilt metalwork hinges open to reveal the etui's contents: scissors, folding fruit knife, dividers, snuff spoon, combined ear and toothpick, bodkin, pencil, tweezers and file and an ivory aide memoire.  Bilston C1770.
