Officer by Place C1785

Unusual miniature of an army officer set before a castle.  He is wearing a powdered wig en queue, red jacket with blue epaulettes and edging and white frilled chemise, probably of the Gardes-Suisses of the French Royal Guard.  Watercolour on ivory by George Place C1785.  Gold shell frame, the reverse with hair in the shape of a wheatsheaf set onto foiled opaline glass.
