Lay-down porcelain navette shape scent. The front is hand-painted with a central cartouche of a lady reading a book to a cherub with doves, clouds and uivers of arrows above and an urn below with the feint letters 'Sappho'. This is bordered in cobalt heightened with gold leaf decoration. The reverse is white with gold star embellishment. Gilt screw-on lid. Possibly Coalport C1795.
